Kulit Telur masih Bernilai Mahal

Written By Luthfie fadhillah on Monday, February 27, 2012 | 3:28 AM

"Setiap jenis kulit telur punya corak berbeda bila diaplikasikan menjadi sebuah produk kerajinan," tutur Teguh.

Kerajinan dari kulit telur ayam negeri (broiler) memunculkan corak berwarna putih. Telur ayam kampung memunculkan corak hitam kemerah-merahan.

Double Yolked Eggs - Are Two Yolks Better Than One?

Written By Luthfie fadhillah on Friday, March 18, 2011 | 7:12 AM

My mom called last night to tell me she'd peeled a hard boiled egg and it had two yolks. (That's her egg in the picture below.)

I've never seen a double yolk egg myself and I was curious how common it is so I decided to do a little research on the topic.

I found an explanation of the double yolk phenomenon:

double yoke egg

Double Yolkers appear when ovulation occurs too rapidly, or when one yolk somehow gets "lost" and is joined by the next yolk. Double yolkers may be by a pullet whose productive cycle is not yet well synchronized. They're occasionally laid by a heavy-breed hen, often as an inherited trait.

On that site you'll also find descriptions of other egg oddities. Who knew you could have no yolkers, double shelled eggs, eggs without shells, spoon shaped eggs, eggs with tails, wormy eggs, triple yolkers, and even a nine yolker? Yikes!

About 1 in 1000 eggs has a double yolk so it isn't all that rare. In some countries, markets sell cartons of double yolked eggs.

Throughout history and in different cultures, finding a double yolk has been considered to mean anything from an impending wedding to a financial windfall to a death in the family.

So would a double yolked egg produce twins? Probably not:

... the presence of the two yolks would generally lead to an unsuccessful hatch. The nutritional value of the egg white, which is an important food supply for the embryo is insufficient for the two embyros.

The Hard Boiled Egg Diet

There's a rumor going around the net that Adrian Brody ate nothing but hard boiled eggs for a month in order to lose weight for his role in The Pianist. He lost 30 pounds in six weeks and his effort earned him an Academy Award. Because of this rumor, a lot of people are curious if eating nothing but eggs is a good way to lose weight.

I searched the web to verify this and it turns out it isn't true. Here is what Brody ate in his own words: "I had two boiled eggs, and then I had nothing for about five hours, then a small piece of chicken, grilled, and then four or five hours later a small piece of fish and a few steamed vegetables."

He says about the experience:

"There is an emptiness that comes with really starving that I hadn't experienced ... I couldn't have acted that without knowing it. I've experienced loss, I've experienced sadness in my life, but I didn't know the desperation that comes with hunger."

There is much talk on the web about eating nothing but hard boiled eggs to lose weight. In fact, many people in the Atkins induction phase eat nothing but hard boiled eggs because they are easy to cook.

Eating nothing but eggs for a month isn't a healthy way to lose weight. Adrian Brody varied his diet to include other items. Even though his diet was varied, it isn't recommended to go on such a starvation diet. Most nutritionists and experts say that losing 1-2 pounds per week is the healthiest way to lose weight. Brody lost 30 pounds in six weeks which comes out to 5 pounds per week. He probably lost a lot of muscle along with fat.

Actors go on extreme diets for their roles. It wins them critical acclaim and awards. It also takes a toll on their bodies. Unless you're up for the role of a lifetime, a starvation diet isn't going to be worth the longterm damage it does to your body.

Eating eggs in excess causes constipation and gas. Any high protein diet can be hard on the kidneys, too. A spokesperson for the American Kidney Fund says:

"We have long suspected that high-protein weight loss diets could have a negative impact on the kidneys, and now we have research to support our suspicions. Dehydration forces the kidneys to work harder to clean toxins from the blood. Kidneys not only filter the blood, but they also help regulate blood pressure and the number of red blood cells."

Regarding high-protein diets, the American Heart Association says:

"Eliminating carbohydrates causes a loss of body fluids... prevent the body from completely burning fat... and form substances called ketones ... Ketosis makes dieting easier because it lowers appetite and may cause nausea."

The healthiest way to lose weight, according to most experts, is to eat less, exercise, and eat foods that pack the most nutrition in the fewest calories. Eggs in moderation are a healthy addition to a well-rounded diet, but eating nothing but eggs will lead to nothing but trouble.

10 Health Benefits of Eggs

Some of you may have eaten eggs over the Easter weekend so I thought I'd post ten health benefits of eggs (and it doesn't count if they were chocolate eggs!)

1. Eggs are great for the eyes. According to one study, an egg a day may prevent macular degeneraton due to the carotenoid content, specifically lutein and zeaxanthin. Both nutrients are more readily available to our bodies from eggs than from other sources.

2. In another study, researchers found that people who eat eggs every day lower their risk of developing cataracts, also because of the lutein and zeaxanthin in eggs.

3. One egg contains 6 grams of high-quality protein and all 9 essential amino acids.

4. According to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health, there is no significant link between egg consumption and heart disease. In fact, according to one study, regular consumption of eggs may help prevent blood clots, stroke, and heart attacks.

5. They are a good source of choline. One egg yolk has about 300 micrograms of choline. Choline is an important nutrient that helps regulate the brain, nervous system, and cardiovascular system.

6. They contain the right kind of fat. One egg contains just 5 grams of fat and only 1.5 grams of that is saturated fat.

7. New research shows that, contrary to previous belief, moderate consumption of eggs does not have a negative impact on cholesterol. In fact, recent studies have shown that regular consumption of two eggs per day does not affect a person's lipid profile and may, in fact, improve it. Research suggests that it is saturated fat that raises cholesterol rather than dietary cholesterol.

8. Eggs are one of the only foods that contain naturally occurring vitamin D.

9. Eggs may prevent breast cancer. In one study, women who consumed at least 6 eggs per week lowered their risk of breast cancer by 44%.

10. Eggs promote healthy hair and nails because of their high sulphur content and wide array of vitamins and minerals. Many people find their hair growing faster after adding eggs to their diet, especially if they were previously deficient in foods containing sulphur or B12.

Allow eggs eaten every day

Written By Luthfie fadhillah on Saturday, March 12, 2011 | 1:25 AM

Egg yolk is rich in essential nutrients  important  for health. One of them is choline. Choline is important  to maintain the smooth functioning of the body's metabolism. Many myths say that eating an egg yolk can cause heart disease risk. In fact, research results published in the American Journal of Clinic Nutrition says that eggs have little saturated fat levels so as not to  interfere with heart health.

The problem is if the eggs are fried, then taken every day for more than a grain by people with heart disease or those with a propensity to heart disease. As stated by Dr. Larry Goddard Wijono, SpGK, a nutritionist from RS Mitra Kemayoran.

In fact, continued Dr. Lany, someone will need some nutrients, including protein and vitamins in the eggs, vary depending on the conditions and activities of each.

One egg yolk contains 25 percent of the daily choline requirement. For people with heart disease, adequate consumption of 2 egg yolks per week. If you do not have a history of heart disease, we can eat boiled egg every day.
